Abelardo Morell was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1962. Morell received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and his MFA from The Yale University School of Art. Renowned for using the camera obscura and his own invention of the Tent/Camera, he has created bodies of work defined by the contemporary use of a technology that predates the camera. He most recently created a project in the South of France in the landscape where van Gogh painted using the Tent/Camera.
