Paper
For a number of years I have made, and continue to make, photographs of books showing interesting conversations between the surfaces, illustrations, and the architecture of these things. Recently, in effort to shape further these dialogues on paper I began to cut illustrations from Dore and Piranesi books in order to make collage-like constructions. In some cases my cutting reveals things several pages below the surface. This excavating process reminds me of the way archeologists dig for information to find what past objects have to say. In my case what I’m after is a reconstructive view of cities and stories told and made by others. In another approach to sculpt things I have also begun to build architectural shapes and silhouettes out of the reams of paper.
